Growing a Good Food Plan for Barking & Dagenham

24 May – 31 October 2022

We're thrilled to be working with the council, Sustain, and local residents on a research project to help develop a Good Food Plan for Barking & Dagenham. The aim of this research is to understand the diversity of our local food cultures and knowledge, to map existing local initiatives that are already building more inclusive food systems, to look to 'Good Food Champions' and learn from approaches elsewhere that are building healthier, more affordable, more sustainable local food systems, and to work with local residents in making decisions about the vision, goals and activities of a future Good Food Plan in Barking and Dagenham.

You can spot the sloes by their distinct blueish, dusky shade. But if in doubt, please consult this handy Plant ID guide for Blackthorn.

As you may (or may not) have heard already, LBBD, Company Drinks and the food charity Sustain are working together on a research project to help develop a Good Food Plan for Barking & Dagenham. This plan will outline how the council will work with residents and partners across Barking & Dagenham to make nourishing, culturally-appropriate, sustainable and tasty food more available to everyone
.
This research will help inform a programme of work to ensure the proposed re-location of London’s historic wholesale food markets to the borough deliver wider economic and social benefits for local residents. Read more about this exciting news here.

We want to hear from as many local residents, businesses
, enterprises and community activists as we can. Your insights and ideas will inform the vision, goals and activities of the plan. > What are the diverse food cultures of Barking & Dagenham?

> Who are the Good Food Champions that inspire us?

> …and who is already doing great work to grow and share good food systems in Barking & Dagenham?

.

If you’re a local resident, a food business, a food grower, if you’re cooking for your community, or are simply interested in hearing more about healthy, sustainable projects, you can sign up to our Good Food Newsletter.
