Sunnyside Community Gardens

Instead of our regular Grow Club Garden session, this week we will be visiting our friends at the Sunnyside Community gardens in North London. . Sunnyside Community Gardens were formed after a campaign by local people and they started working to create the garden in October 1977. The gardens had a grand opening on 29th July 1978 and registered as a charity in 1992. Local residents have developed Sunnyside into a beautiful organic garden, designated as a site of importance for nature conservation, with a wildlife pond. Local volunteers still maintain the gardens in all their beauty. As well as the nature reserve we have a fenced off plant nursery across the road where we grow plants to use in Sunnyside and we also garden in the formal Peace Garden in Elthorne Park. This means Sunnyside is a big and varied garden that is always needs lots of volunteer gardeners to keep it looking its best. New volunteers are always welcome.

We will Meet at Barking Station at 10:30 Am and travel together on the tube to the garden location for a 12pm arrival, once at the site, we will

-Get a tour of the gardens and learn how they started

-Share inspiration with each other with plants and herbs

-Have a shared lunch together provided by Sunnyside community gardens

-Get a chance to help out with some tasks on their site

If you would like to attend, please contact Shaun for enquiries, if travel is a barrier for you, then please get in touch before the event so we can help make arrangements.
